What is Cable DSL?
If you’re thinking of getting a broadband connection at home, you’ll need to choose between a cable connection and an ADSL connection. Cable DSL is particularly useful for households that already have a cable phone line and digital TV, but any internet user might find that a cable company offers them a good deal.
Advantages of cable DSL
Cable companies usually offer deals on ‘bundle’ packages, where customers get a discount if they opt for more than one service from the same company. For instance, if you wanted a cable DSL connection, phone line and digital TV all from the same company, the standard rate for each would be reduced.
Cable ISPs
These companies (including Telewest, Easynet and Bulldog) use their own cable systems to connect you to the internet. To connect, you’ll need to live in an area already served by the company, but you don’t need to have a BT phone line. Use our comparison service to check whether your area is compatible with your chosen cable DSL provider.
To get connected, your ISP must arrange for someone to visit and install your cable line (unless you already have one). Some companies charge a set-up fee for this.
